Widgets work!
Cameron Olthius, in replying to a fairly negative post by Noah Kagan, states a universal truth of the Widgetsphere:
5. Widgets work! I’m not saying that you can build a widget for anything and expect it to work but a lot of people use widgets, and they if they provide value they work. Widgets increase your overall link count which again helps with your SEO. They also drive traffic. 30% of Technorati’s traffic comes from MySpace widgets. Think of the number of big bloggers that have Technorati widgets on their site, there’s a lot of them.
What was it in reply to?
5- Oh don’t worry, we have a MySpace Badge. It appears the new and ultimate trend in marketing is a badge / widget that people can put everywhere. This is okay but not as effective as people think.
I definitely agree that widgets work. I just think so many people put there whole business on the backbone of widgets. I guess people don't realize what widgest people really want to share and use. nice post.
